closet grab

i've mentioned once before, the nostalgia i've felt in passing on a dress from the past, especially one that looked well damn amazing & had memorable nights out ,ect... & i'm sure that marissa shares those same feelings, & you can see peeking into her shop stylebook on etsy that it is a dedication of her thrifting love for all things cute, & all things once worn in absolute fun. i've adored her flickr posts, which grace us with her many, many, many delightful & witty vintage pieces, i've had the pleasure of owning a few of her items myself, & am grateful we can raid from her closet. just wanted to share a shop i know that has some dresses with a real past, i love the idea of passing things on.all photos c/o stylebook,
& outfits shown on marissa are for sale!

"i smiled at the memories i made in some of this stuff! who's next??", marissa

heartfelt handmade indulgences

its been ages, (really a long, long time) since i've splurged on really anything for myself, (well who can afford it?).
yet today i was so inspired by anabela's recent sincere & very heartfelt posts on the itergrity of handmade & that of the handmade seller & buyer, (posts are here & here), that i couldn't resist the temptation any longer. also, i really am not feeling all that guilty either, since it was some recent items i sold in my own lil etsy shop, that made these indulgences possible, & so in the end i'm just giving a hug back to teh beloved handmde community, it's karma, or somethin'. ok so now soemone has to want soemthing i knit right;)

pre-second feminist wave tv show is back

my favorite show mad men is BACK!
remember the scene when joan is date raped, & of a time when she didn't even realize...or when that little girl is locked in the closet as suitable punishment...or the condesending & nasty treatment of peggy asking her doctor for birth control...
thank you second wave feminism....we'll get there...

**if you live in canada you can watch full episodes from the beginning to catch up here, or to re-watch as i am now, while knitting....

(coming soon our mom & daughter matching rabbit swandiamond rose tees)

(other recent unexpected pick me ups, including winnning an amazing skirt from tiffany, a knit mug from anabela, & a library card cleared of all overdue fees from a kind librarian...)

my summer heart has winter knits on my brain

it may be summer, my favorite of all seasons, yet i'm still lost in a world of knits & snow & bulky & things to come...
& yes my shop update will be FINALLY including alot of BLACK & of course a whole lot chunky & variety of such, more so even!
things which have been inspiring me, these street knit styles & which obviously will be affecting the yarnovermovemnt fall/winter collection to come.... (yah i'm saying collection because it will be just that, & really my first ever official collection, with a certain theme in mind...just to keep you curious)

this knitter is focused very seriously this time around!
no date set for the shop re-do, so of course the orgianl goodies are all in the shop... i haven't decided on an entire overhaul of the store (maybe even a closing & re-opening), or just a slow move forward, in the concept, design, look, ect

all photos c/o stockholmstreetstyle & i think (?) facehunter

i'm a gal fond of moss & seed stitch too

its the perfect all around skirt, a high waist, just above knee-length, free on the hips & a very light denim fabric, with bold white buttons, (that really unbutton too), & a contrasting stitching, not to mention it is flawless in execution, i can't even get over how perfect each stitch is, i'm in awe.
thanks to tiffany for her skirt giveaway at moss stitch..seed stitch...
check out her etsy shop, for more handmade items, & a wonderful sale too!

mixing vintage, modern & handmade!

if you aren't already a frequent follower of the style blog "the coveted", well shame on you!
as an admirer of jennine, i sent her a classic ribbed beret, as a thanks for a shout out she did for yarnovermovement in the past, this beret took a very long year journey to make its way to Germany....
well,it finally got to the right place, & i love how she wears the hand knit beret mixed with vintage & modern, check out the rest of her out fit here!
thanks jennine!

OH, almost forgot, i've re-listed on SALE, the retired classic ribbed beret, in honour of the coveted blog, & it will be on sale dirt cheap for the next couple of days, please splurge.
also, fellow Australian readers, please pick up a copy of the zine THAW which features a cover shot of the yarnovermovemnt MAXI scarf.

just stuff i wore, but what inspires you in what you wear?

obviously, my what i wore whenever posts, are hardly what is the next trendy thing, and not a what to buy & where to buy it, mostly its about mixing vintage & guiltily some mall/retail crap on the cheap in real life sneaks in too, trying be more socially consumerist consious without looking like too much shabby... i live outside of daily style influences, coming from a very small city perspective, & i'm turned off by most label whoring designers, so mostly i'm inspired by alot of you from real blogs in genereal, not that much from fashion magazines, & not window store displays either. i suppose this is my version of an apology for these posts, hah! also though, what inspires you in what you wear?

fuchsia vintage blouse, i love it for its layered sleeves,
with buttons on the shoulders: etsy
jeans: h&m
oxfords: etsy

sorry i don't have a better picture to post of this ,
as there were cars driving by this alleyway often,
& it gets well embarrassing

my favorite tee of Burnaby and Alicia:
(& i don't own hardly any tees actually): thepinpals on etsy
jeans, wide legged, i cuffed: h&m
black heeled oxfords (truth be told i switched these off later for flats, ouchie)
orange handknit ascot: me

seriously, its close to mid-june, & sadly i'm needing a sweater, a jacket, a scarf, rainboots & umbrella...oh you tricky canadian weather

scarf, green rubber boots: vintage & thrifted
jacket & purse: h&m
umbrella: ikea
gray cardigan: gap

just some more stuff i wore... i think i'ii wait for nicer weather, when i feel more inspired about my clothes, & less self-conscious i suppose taking those very awkward photos...

brocades

so, its not ground-breaking, not even a new idea, & we've seen it trendiness in decor hit many peeks, yet this Lyell photo from a past season & its use of a lovely brocade wallpaper, was the push needed to really help me decide, because i've been talking myself out of, & procrastinating like crazy on it...but now its the inspiration & push needed for my yarnovermovement shop look over-haul... i've been drifitng lately to a new look shot entirely in a wooded backdrop, however with weather permitted its a big risk, in this way i can make a studio space that helps the look of our place too... i have a month deadline ahead for me... heres hoping...

in other things, can i please have that hairdo everyday, & the blouse is not an option either, how dreamy would it be to wear this all about & drift through your days on air! as well, i can't help but think a jean rhys heroine would be just right in this from this post!

how was i so lucky!

who knew the internet world could be so nice as to bring me online acquaintances that could mean what they do, seriously its the oddest thing to have friends online, persons of whom i have never met face to face, but still...
in this case in point, i was the lucky snail mail recipient of a gift from an online friend of that sort, & a familiar artist to many of you, & his much loved etsy shop matty8080 ... (we worked/collaborated on some illustrative ink/embroidery pieces, way back when...) take a peek at one of them here!
in any case, i wanted to gush about the work of matty8080 on etsy...please take a peek...& thanks matty!

i plan to show you the work i was sent soon, once it is all framed & pretty on my wall, & i have just the spot too!
