knitters, can you help a girl out

hi fellow knitters...
i've been working on these drawstring cowls, yet i'd like to chart out more of a classic fair isle design (thinking those sweaters granny used to make in the 80s) , & still really inspired by traditional Nordic two colour knitting, yet having a really hard time finding free informative sites, can anyone help me out?
as well, ive been on the lookout for recycled yarns or handspun chunky yarn on etsy, that isn't too too expensive...

also, i've included this pic of my newest moss pom pom cowl, which has really amazing abilities for forming & holding its place just right, would you wear something like this?
hope you don't mind its my "knitting up& making new designs season" & feedback is really helpful, as to what works & doesn't...
pom pom have always been so bittersweet for me, (like a swinging for instance, love the swings but i always get so nauseous)...same goes for pom poms i freaking can't get enough of them, but i'm very picky, & only the puffiest, fullest & most perfect pom poms will do, i've bought many contraptions, to no decent approved outcome, however, this very ** tutorial**, the most basic even! pom pom remind me of fanciful mod ice-skating 60s girls...muff included!

  2. i'm not a knitter either but i'm an appreciator and wow i LOVE the orange striped cowl. so much! and with your description of your pompom pickyness and mod ice-skate girl references, you got me with the pompom one too.

and i wanted to add something, remember your blog entry about not liking pimping yourself, and i was all like... i don't like it but it;s ok to put yourself out there, etc. hmmmm. i'm falling even more on the "i can't stand it!" side again. ugh. it IS totally weird doing this. i try to stay out of my blog and flickr stream more and more, and keep my private life separate. but it's hard.

  4. I love the pompoms!!!!! You should definitely make both cowls in a bunch of colors. Have you tried ravelry for fairisle tutorials? There are a lot of free patterns on there. I also found some good old knitting books at the library!

  5. TOTALLY!
the pom pom's are SO adorable.

I've been thinking lately about how to incorporate pom pom's into my knitting but i figured with the hot as hell weather that we have coming up in new york I'd hold off until winter came around.

    Super cute!!

  10. Hi Tara-Lyn. My lovely hubby Rohan bought me one of your scarf's recently, and I LOVE it! It is so long I can where is loose and still have length, or twist in around and around and around and enjoy the snuggly warmth! But enough of that. I want to chat to you about putting some info about you and your etsy store in our mag Thaw. I think RO has talked to you about it. Pls email me when you get a chance if you can. Thanks heaps. Kim
