particularily merino

this SIMCOE would be nothin at all without the gorgeous kelly green merino hand spun & hand dyed wool, & i can't help but now realize i thought this seems very hannah-like, don't you think, & i hope it will inspire everyone to be more whimiscal, i love the turban for just that kind of timelessness... i can't wait to get my hands on more merino wool, it makes very much more limited & special pieces to be sure...you can peek at my pattern i posted here, or just download the pdf here (thanks jlee for designing these wonderful pdf's, & soon more in the shop too).

instant gratification

there's kinda a story behind this turban, but short story, this is so easy to knit, & is the ultimate instant gratification as its so quick, its all about customization, & just knit & measure your ol' head as you go... i'm in the midst of knitting one up for enid...

Shetland Cowl aka feather & fan

 this vintage inspired knit pattern includes my love of cowls & that of the shetland stitch pattern sometimes called feather & fan, or even ol' shale.

you will need:
suggested wool weight: medium/10 ply
suggested 11US/8mm circular needles
1 tapestry needle
 (these are just suggestions, as this pattern is perfect for experimenting with & achieving many results)

CO 72 sts. onto circulars & place marker & knit in the round
Row1: Knit
Row2: Knit
Row3: *K2tog 3times, (YO, knit one ) six times, K2tog 3times*. Repeat across the row.
Row4:Purl (although it may seem odd to purl on circulars, you need to)
these four rows will make up your pattern, repeat row1-4 until you reach desired length,
& i always prefer to bind off on the last row of the pattern
now just seam & block if you prefer


edited to add: i am sorry, at the time i shared this pattern, i hadn't realized how many people might enjoy it, so i am sorry i was not more prepared with finished measurements, or gauge, but i hope you will have some fun with it.

ALSO, here is the basic shetland pattern (for straight needles & for the long scarf), its is such a pretty lacy pattern, that achieves wonderful scalloped edges

the basic feather & fan stitch (now you can experiment & use this stitch in many projects)
CO 18 sts. (on straight needles)
row 1: knit
row 2: purl
row 3: *k2tog 3times, (YO, knit one ) six times, k2tog 3times* repeat across the row
row 4: knit

for the feather & fan scarf (pictured below)
CO 36 sts. onto straight needles (11US/8mm)
row 1: knit
row 2: purl
row 3: *k2tog 3times, (YO, knit one ) six times, k2tog 3times* repeat across the row
row 4: knit
repeat rows 1-4 to make up pattern
also, why not try adding a border of garter or seed stitch

the basic honeycomb pattern

row 1: i repeated the *c2b & c2f* for the first row (when you repeat the honeycomb pattern the next time around, so on your sixth round you switch c2f, c2b, ect)
row 1-3:the other 3 rows just knit across on circulars

*C2B: Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold to back of work; k2, then k2 from cable needle. C2F: Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold to front of work; k2, then k2 from cable needle.





i'm anticipating this toque will be getting lots of tobogganing action soon!
i'd like to re-knit the pattern with a longer brim & with a tad thicker yarn...
